On Thursday, October 8 from 10 p.m. until Friday, October 9 around 2 a.m. at Lanihuli Observatory, astronomy professor Joe Ciotti hopes to video record the impact of NASA’s lunar-sensing satellite as it intentionally collides into a crater near the south pole of the moon where evidence of water is proven to exist.
Students and the community are welcome to witness live video images as the LCROSS lunar probe impacts the moon and also view a NASA video describing the LCROSS mission. The event at Lanihuli Observatory is free and open to the public.

Join us for the only live downlink from the Space Shuttle Discovery during mission STS 119.
Among the crew members are two middle school math and science teachers, Ricky Arnold and Joe Acaba. Joe was the keynote speaker at the Astronaut Lacy Veach Day of Discovery, October 2006. The crew, including International Space Station flight engineer Sandra Magnus, will host a 20-minute live video and audio downlink from the space shuttle, 12 days after launch.
Sponsored by the Hawaii State Legislature and Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.
The one-day event provides an overview of Hawaii's future in aerospace development - where we stand today, Hawaii as a catalyst for multinational space partnerships, dual-use applications in space, Hawaii's civilian space launch potential, aerospace education in Hawaii and more. A special presentation of "In the Shadow of the Moon" will be screened at the end of the event.
