The February 1, 2010 application deadline for the 2010 IRES program has passed.

The International Research Experience for Students (IRES) Program, sponsored by NSF has funded the University of Hawaii to send 4 US students for summer research study at the University of Applied Sciences at Dresden, Germany. 

The Hawai`i IRES program, currently entering its second year, is co-directed by Dr. Chittaranjan Ray, professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa, and Dr. Thomas Grischek, professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Dresden.
 
Participants will collaborate on field research and site visits in and around Dresden. In addition, they will conduct group and independent study on various aspects of riverbank filtration systems and how models are used to manage them; optimization of riverbank filtration systems, and how such systems are used by water utilities to remove common pollutants found in rivers.
