(4) Temporary, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Maui High Performance Computing Center, located at the Maui Research and Technology Park on the Island of Maui. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, and availability of funds.

Duties: 

Responsible for supporting ongoing projects and work assignments at MHPCC under close supervision of a mentor chosen from among the permanent technical staff members. Responsibilities could include support of users. technical projects, administration of Linux clusters, development and modification of web pages, database design and operation, systems account services and support, HPC system monitoring or development of 3D animation visualization.

 

Qualifications: 

Education

High School Diploma; current attendance (1st semester 2009) as a student at the University of Hawaii, including Manoa, Hilo or any of community college campuses.

 

Experience

Minimum of effective experience in computer operation, in-depth specialization in a particular area. Level I - Up to one (0-1) year of experience. Level II - One to two (1-2) years of experience. Level III - Two (2) years of experience.

 

Abilities / Knowledge / Skills

Knowledge of basic computer technology, computer hardware, and software. Knowledge in one or more of the following technology areas: Linux system administration, web page design, database design, computer security and 3D animation and visualization, computational weather modeling or similar computational sciences. Ability to communicate with senior computer professionals in diagnosing and resolving problems. Ability to follow documented directions, processes, and procedures. Ability to utilize a workstation or computer terminal to enter commands and obtain responses. Knowledge of at least one computer system and associated operating system (Unix, Linux, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, MacOS) and the ability to install hardware or software on that system. Knowledge of at least one programming language (C, C++, JAVA, Perl, SQL). Ability to work independently under minimum supervision. Ability to work in team environment. Ability to obtain access to classified information. Must be U.S. citizen.
